Phrasal verbs – break

break through means to make a sudden advance Example: the company succeeded in breaking through with these new ideas. Another meaning is to demolish. Example: The army used tanks to break through the barricades.
break down means a machine to stop working. Example: The car broke down on the way home. 2. cry Example: When we gave her the bad news she broke down and cried. 3. analyse Example: We can break down the process into a number of separate stages.
break in means to enter in a building by force. Example: The thieves broke in and raided the safe. Another meaning is to interrupt. Example: Please excuse me for breaking in.
break up means to separate. Jenny and George have broken up. 2. school finish. School breaks up next week for the summer holidays. 3. disintegrate. Rocks gradually breaks up into sand. 4. stop being heard. You're breaking up. so I'll call you back later.
break out means escape Example: The prisoner broke out of jail. 2. begin suddenly Example: Fire broke out during the night. 3. develop a rash Example: A rash broke out on Alice's face after she used the lotion.
